I was recently contemplating “Integrity”.  I even planned to do a little bible research on the subject.
Today I didn’t follow my plan for my daily bible reading.  Normally I skip the chapters I missed in previous days in order to stay on track.  But I felt a need to read Numbers 30-32 and what a blessing it is.

Integrity.  The beginning of Chapter 30 starts with vows.  I am reminded of James 5:12:  But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.
If you make a commitment, keep it.  Or do not make the commitment at all.  I find myself saying I will do something and never doing it.  We should always have “integrity”, even though we are not required to live under the laws of the Old Testament.

I see an example of this also in the entire chapter 32. Reuben and Gad demonstrate integrity by their commitment.  The repetition in the text makes the commitment clear, what was said as the commitment and what was understood as the commitment. Reuben and Gad was given the desires of they heart because of their integrity.

Men and Vows,  Women and Vows, Vengeance on Midian, Reuben and Gad Settle in Gilead.
